About The Logo

Okay, I wanted to create this page to tell the story of my logo.

If you’ll take a moment to notice, the logo has three main components:

  • Ginkgo leaves
  • A Great Blue Heron
  • Full moon

Allow me to break these down a bit, and then I’ll explain how they came to be the logo for Ginkgo Consulting.

Ginkgo Leaves

The Ginkgo tree and its leaves symbolizes wisdom, longevity, and strength. It’s a symbol of hope and love. In mythology, it’s the “tree of life”. It is said, the Ginkgo among plants, displayed the strongest recuperative powers following the bombing of Hiroshima.

Great Blue Heron

This part’s really cool. I live and work in Upstate NY, where the herons live. I’ve always loved Great Blue Herons, and all my life growing up here would stop dead in my tracks if I saw one, just to watch it.

Also where I live, is full of Iroquois Indian history. It’s said that the Iroquois would see a heron while going out for a hunt, and they believed that it was an ancestor coming to tell them that the hunt would be a success. How cool is that!?

So I’m sitting in my office one day, dreaming up this new business model and coming up with a name, and I look out the window to a huge tree in the backyard. All of the sudden I see this rustling on a branch, and lo and behold, it’s a Great Blue Heron landing in the tree! I thought, “Okay, so this is so definitely telling me that this new venture is going to be a success, and I have to figure out a way to incorporate this into the new business!”

The Full Moon

Many moons (ha) ago, when I first got into the Internet, it was back in the day where there were pretty much only chat rooms to visit. I was in high school, and taking Spanish for my language requirement. I’d always had this fascination for the moon, so when I chose a nickname for the chats, it was Lady De La Luna (Lady of the moon). Since then, I’ve been known all over the internet as “ladydelaluna”, so if you find it anywhere, it’s almost definitely me (except on AIM – some kid registered it when I was a site monitor for Neopets.com so he could con other kids into believing he was me).

The other really cool thing about the moon is that there is Greek mythology behind Diana, the Goddess of the Moon, and her hounds. Diana is almost always depicted in paintings with greyhounds, and while I had no idea that Diana, the moon, and greyhounds were connected when I first named my internet persona, it turned out that I have been involved in retired racing greyhound rescue for years, and have two lovely greyhounds of my own!

So there you have it, a full-length explanation of the Ginkgo Consulting logo and how it came to be. I strongly encourage anyone branding themselves or their business to really put a personal touch to their logo, rather than just some basic stylized symbol or letter… it makes things so much more fun!
