Oh make no mistake - I'm actually a VA for many of my clients if you want to get technical, so I understand all that. I just know that it's difficult sometimes to find someone who's not out to make the same or more than what I do on certain projects... which tends to put me in a very itchy spot.

Using a VA allows you to make money while she does the tasks that COST you money. I work for a number of lawyers and legal nurse consultants. They can be working on new projects or talking to prospective clients about new work while I finish their existing projects or perform admin tasks for them. And since they pay no overhead (vacation, sick leave, insurance costs) and don't have to maintain additional equipment for me to use, they actually save money by hiring me. Small businesses actually increase their business with use of an EXPERIENCED Virtual Assistant. Remember one thing: you get that you pay for!

I am in the same boat as Michelle- if things get too crazy I hire freelance assistants to help. I agree that before bringing on help you have to make sure you're still turning a profit- but if you're so busy juggling projects, it sounds like this shouldn't be too much of a problem!

Thanks for your response, Michelle! Hiring a VA is a great idea, as long as the money's there to cover it and not make the project a wash for you, the business owner.

This scenario often happens to me - I've got too many clients and not enough hours in the day to service them all in the way I'd like and they expect. I've found the best way to deal with this situation is to hire help. I've hired a full time assistant, and I hire other free lance assistants on an as need basis. Sometimes I use a VA - Virtual Assistant - if the work can be handled through the internet and fax machines. A good VA is worth their weight in gold.

Using an assistant or VA does 4 things. 1)Takes some of the pressure off me so I am less stressed 2)allows me to service my clients in a timely fashion so they are happy 3)Happy clients mean more repeat clients and referrals and I make more money than I have paid out to the Assistant or VA 4)It affords me the time to pursue new business (so there is always new work in the pipeline) and come up with new and innovative products and services.
